An afternoon departure from snowy Newcastle, evening arrival at slightly warmer Faro, train to Tavira and settled into Portuguese home at the Pousada de Juventude ... mostly populated by oldies fleeing Northern winters ... a later than usual night and a good sleep in the four bed dormitory, with one other occupant, David from Portugal, with a rather harrowing tale of gang violence and seeking to create a new life away from it all ...
Darren, Aussie pilgrim, having postponed planned Via de la Plata walk due to cold weather, is walking the Algarve coast, heavily laden with packs front and back ... camping out as well as hostelling. .. and having commenced a conversation at breakfast we decided to continue it walking towards his destination for today, Fuseta ... great action for the legs, fascinating information on his healing work, centred on the Bowen Technique ... lots of common ground, as so often found with the pilgrims ... after late lunch he headed for the campsite and I headed for the station, in good time for the Tavira train ... maybe we'll meet again ... in Santiago or along a trail. .. who knows?!
Meanwhile, here he is, loaded up ... and a pic of Shiva, working in the coffee stop at Luz ... from Nepal and Finchley ... the first brief post of this leg of the adventure is offered late in day one by your rather weary writer, still adjusting to the incredible speed of the flying business and the often deep conversations with Darren and David ...
