encounters in Tavira . . .

Having decided on another night at the hostel, I make the booking with Joanna, who has taken over from Carlos. It's the first time I have met her. Yesterday this shift was covered by Diana, born and brought up in Crawley, near Gatwick. Her parents were Portuguese and the family returned to Portugal when Diana was 13, which gave her an interesting perspective on Portugal and Britain.

Joana is 29, and straight into spiritual questions. The free life. She is yearning for it, yet she has a good job in a country where that is something not easily found. We talk about Mooji, who is based in Monchique and on my radar for a visit. And Tamera, The Awakened Life Project, J. Krishnamurti . . . a lovely connection, to be continued.

But first, Jane and Look at the Cafe Veneza. She is American, from New York, he from Holland, where they lived together for years, before moving to Portugal. They met Thich Nat Hanh at Plum Village in France and he suggested they set up a sangha in the Algarve, based on interbeing and mindfulness. A warm connection, helpful information and some new contacts.

So much going on here . . . an invitation to visit a permaculture project inland from here, in a couple of weeks . . . meanwhile, my feet are itching for action . . . to Faro tomorrow . . . maybe . . .
