Ever since meeting voluntary hospitaleros on the Camino Frances almost two years ago, the ambition has been to experience the job ... meeting and greeting pilgrims ... in some hostels also cooking and cleaning, though here it is self service and a cleaner comes in every day .... no idea how long it will last ... Lola closes on the 28th for a break ... incoming pilgrims may fancy a try ... let's see ... speaking of which, trying to save the world by switching off the corridor light backfired ...a heavy fall up two steps resulting in some pain, but no breakages. ..
Opening time is 3.30 pm ... Achille, taking a rest day, has bused it to Santillana and Altamira ... the two other Italians, Stefania and Ermes, last seen a few days ago, have dropped their bags and gone exploring ....
Meanwhile, the view from the chair outside the hostel on the hill is not bad ... especially since the rain has stopped and the sun is shining ... Lola comes in to clean ... enjoying loud pop music while she works ... a section of ceiling collapses, weakened by yesterday's rain ... Marcel and Paul arrive, then Marita, Nadia from Malaysia (the French one having departed this morning)... Marcos from Pamplona ... Julien from Lyon, last seen in Guernica, Uma the little dog, keeping an eye on things ...
The first day in the new career, free bed and food, just locking up at 10 to do ... good to see the Camino from another perspective ...
