Sarria to Portomarin ...

Another damp forecast and with the high ground taken, time to slow down again ... heavy rain on leaving the Albergue Don Alvaro ... very good ...mostly quiet co-sleepers, log fire and complementary Oruja adding to the ambience ... togged up waterproofly and out prepared for a wet walk ... at the church a slight arrow error means Aaron arrives on the route and an interesting hour ensues, deepening the conversation through quiet lanes, with abundance evident as apples and chestnuts fall on the ground around. .. his philosophy and playwritery entertaining and an invitation to him to contribute in his own words ... let's see ...

This pilgrim's views on an infinite number of parallel universes (since we are all the centre of our own universe), the opportunity to create and inhabit worlds where Love is the guiding light, the joy of converging at finer vibrations and maybe, as TNH suggests, evolve as superorganisms ... have another airing ... and somehow survive ... why not? In any case, it is an optimistic view in a pessimistic world and doing no harm ...

A brief photo stop between showers to contrast the rather redundant symbol with added arrow and the grand secular marker counting down the kilometres, to three decimal places, to Santiago ... still three or four days away depending on mood, ability ... two days for reckless 50 km per day pilgrims ... this feature missing the point of the Camino, which is surely not the destination, but the journey itself ... distance to the next bar or bed sometimes helpful, but one day at a time is plenty ... though there is GPS and several pilgrims playing safe with that ... Freedom From The Known was K's phrase and book ... security is our cage ... the marker madness a mistake in the EU infrastructure projects, otherwise well done, sympathetically surfaced tracks, with occasional cobbled options for the authentic look, as well a place for sinners to suffer ... some folks are into that ...

A brief stop to chat with Brodie, the solitary Aussie and further on, evidence of a settled Aussie offering solutions for world peace, Dalai Lama inspired, and vegetarian food ... though Portomarin is close by now and a larger lunch calls ...

A rather damp pilgrim, having over optimistically removed waterproof trousers, which led to wet feet as well as legs, takes a large lunch and finds a triple bed room at the Albergue Porto Santiago for some comfort and clothes drying ... expensive at €36 but may get cheaper if other amenable pilgrims want to share ... Brodie found the municipal albergue, a bargain €6 for a bunk bed, but sterile, like all the Xunta hostals and consciously avoided this time through ... sitting by the log burner in the lounge, it seems worth it for the warmth of Jessica, the hospitalera, as well as the fire ... not to mention sheets and towels ... whether or not the spare beds get sub-let ...
