A little more folklore ...

Being useful feeding chickens, helping with housework ... it's a big space and even when not operating as a retreat centre, takes some looking after ...

Vitor regales us with tales from the old days ... the old ways, still continued in places, harvesting and preserving the bounty of nature ... octopus and squid the main food from the sea in his stories ... missed the chance to enquire about the bacalhau obsession ... off the radar for this past week cooking vegetarian meals in the house ...

Past Portuguese theory of the nostalgic nature of the people ... mourning the economic emigration ... taking musical form in Fado. .. allegedly fostered by the fascist regime of Salazar ... to keep the people feeling helpless ... Vitor and the others quite scathing about the current politicians at all levels ... though this is a general trend across Europe it seems ...

West Algarve has been lovely, the experience deepened by being here with the family and meeting some of their friends from Germany and Portugal ... Salema rather nice in the winter sunshine ....

Tomorrow's destination still unclear, maybe a toss of a coin will decide !
