Pontevedra to Caldas

A relaxed wander to Caldas ... 21km and fine weather for a later start ... a roadside reunion with Mercienne and more conversation ... her life in Montreal, reasons for walking the Way ... continued over brunch, where Maria arrives ... a recommendation from the very friendly bar owner to divert 300m off route 5km ahead to see stunning waterfalls ... after which some light rain arrives before lunch at Catro Canos just before Caldas ... visited before and fondly remembered ... Jose, Carmen and daughter Soraya loving life and the Camino ... Jose himself a pilgrim veteran provides home grown wine with lunch and a bottle to take away ... a huge compliment since rucksack weight is severely restricted ... excess lunch is boxed up to accompany the wine and some tortilla from brunch ... cakes from brunch for dessert complete supper ...

Before all that, Malcolm, from Colombia via Wood Green, is checking in at Catro Canos Albergue ...veteran pilgrim, whose wife is walking the French Way and finding snow ... turns out she was also at the Albergue near where a pilgrim from USA was lured off the Way and murdered, though such events are virtually unknown in the parallel universe of pilgrimming ... he refers to Wood Green as currently the murder capital of the world, something once attributed to Bogota ... how does he bring such energy through? Maybe all coincidence ...

The four English folks from Porrino pop in for stamps on their pilgrim passports, graciously given, though perhaps a coffee or two might not go amiss ...

In Caldas another shared room offers a little extra comfort ... and who turns up at the Pension but Mercienne, who arrived first, playing tortoise to our rather slow hare ...

Tomorrow Padron, another relaxed wander and time to engage with others catching up ...
