Porto to Tavira ...

After a deep, albeit short, sleep in the quiet room without a view (unnecessary anyway since it was dark on arrival and dark on departure), it's across the road to the station in plenty of time to buy a ticket and board the 5.40 for Faro ... senior discount halves the price ... it remains to be seen whether such generosity survives the current divorce process ... or whether the process itself survives come to that ... or whether, as seems most likely, the discount applies to all senior citizens of whichever nation ...

Alfa delivers to Faro in comfort and at speed, through Coimbra, Lisbon, Alentejo, even awful Albufeira and since it is a sunny 21 degrees, Faro pleasant to wander, Tavira check-in after 4 p.m. a sunny spot is found for lunch after an on-board breakfast of average croissant and coffee ...vegetable soup, quiche and salad, a strawberry dessert, since the lunch menu is secondary to ice cream and other desserts here ... perfect ... Humberto, having relocated from his native Lisbon and reporting it rather overrun with tourists, hostels increasingly taking over the old central areas ... happening in Faro also ...

The 13.55 train to Tavira ends the two day, two bus, two train trip home from Finisterre ... home now having three locations: Stanhope, Tavira Pousada de Juventude and La Espiral ... as defined by people at each location saying so ... and after the freedom of the three years without a home it's all held lightly ... Stanhope calling now, the timing mostly dependent on dentists tomorrow as well as winter flight timetables ...

Meanwhile, at the hostel, new faces ... Remy from France, Claudio from Italy, Osvaldo from Argentina, Manu from Finland, Thierry from Belgium ... familiar faces, Diana and Joana from the staff,  Ivan still working at local restaurant ...
