FB, serving as memory of such things, sends tacky reminder of this day four years ago when the free life began with a train trip to Winchester and a few days at Brockwood to clear the mind ... free from house, car and anything else that wouldn't fit in the rucksack ... which was still too much for comfortable carrying across the Pyrenees ...
Since today is hopefully the final fitting of new denture-free arrangement, thoughts turn to a Camino, reflecting on approaching winter ..though such thoughts were absent then and the month long first Camino from Urdos and Jaca via the French Way at Puente la Reina started after two weeks' wandering in England and France ... perhaps the base at Railway Terrace, undergoing some renovations, is acting as cage to entice feckless pensioner? Some mental work required to free up the next stage after the recent exercise in patience ... nearly a month to complete the vanity project ... a short break to the West coast, another to Spain ... all part of life, for sure, but the parallel universe of the pilgrims pulls more, as well as the cosy retreat in Stanhope (cosy when the works are complete!) with the opportunities to be useful in the community ...
Breakfast conversation with retired research immunologist Danielle, from France, reveals her finding retirement rather tiresome after ten years, while later, deeper discussion with Beth, from the U.S. not yet retired, but living the free life anyway, having completed the South West Coast Path recently ... the Appalachian Trail a while ago, and seeking trails in Portugal, as well as meaning in life ...
Fitting session with Humberto ends with further problems, a return later today and likely two week delay as apparatus returns to lab ... offering Porto Camino window with return to Tavira, then Faro flight, rather than planned Santander ferry ... and as promised the reference for Self Comes to Mind and other books by Antonio Damasio ... some videos to check and books to order. ..
