Weird Dale again ...

Budget hotel at airport offers simple comfort, though restricted free WiFi is a surprise after so many different hostels and hotels round Portugal and Spain, including many pilgrim albergues, offering it free ... perhaps a false economy? Anyway, there is tea, coffee and a kettle, plus a telly for a rare  excursion to BBC morning "news" ... whilst Greggs at airport offers budget porridge and juice breakfast, change for the Metro and a train to the Toon ... a damp wander aroond, absorbing the shiny Christmas offerings early enough to avoid excessive shoppers ... and express bus to Durham, free for old people after 9.30, offers table and free internet ... HM UK Government, much criticised for EU shambles, continues with pensioner perks for now, even winter fuel allowance enabling escape to warmer climes ... though southerly winds today bring mid-teen temperatures along with the rain ... plus progressive looking publicity warning against hate crime, with named victim groups including transgender folks, a minority group in the news ... leading to some musing whether hormones in food and water might be blurring binary gender identity ...

Wander through Durham reveals exhibition of illustrations from Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass ... alternative realities nailing many absurdities of current consensus realities ... onward bus to Crook sees weather become misty ... mind, however, is undisturbed ... for now ... house awaiting work, but liveable ... mostly upstairs ... fingers crossed for woodburner installation before colder weather arrives ...
